Action Items
- Board members will email Bill a photo and bio for inclusion on the SWNA website.
- Erik will email other NA chairs to gauge interest in hosting a candidate forum in the fall.
Items Discussed:
Guest – Amy Renalds, VisitNWX
- VisitNWX is an association of business owners, property owners, and individuals who share common interests for the NWX business community of Bend. Amy suggested that it could be beneficial for the SWNA and VisitNWX to have website links to each other to raise awareness and collaborate on events and news. The board agreed.
- Justin discussed City of Bend projects affecting our neighborhood including street preservation, stormwater repair on Newport Ave., and subdivision developments in the SWNA.
- Transportation System Plan has moved into the adoption phase. City Council will have a public hearing on August 19, 2020 for final adoption.
- City of Bend sent out a Land Use Survey to Bend residents approximately 2 months ago and the SWNA had the 4th highest response rate.
- The Neighborhood Street Safety Project (NSSP) is under budget, which means that one of the SWNA projects might be selected and receive funding.
- No update. NART has not met since last board meeting.
- The public was invited via the SWNA Facebook page to join the board meeting but nobody did.
- Makayla with City of Bend is asking NAs to incorporate public survey outreach using apps like HootSuite and Survey Reach. It was decided that the SWNA social media person should be in charge of this. This would allow the NA to gather data from members about issues that are important to them.
- The board has been approached by various political candidates requesting meeting agenda time. The board decided it was not appropriate. It was suggested that several NAs get together to host a candidate forum. NA members could submit questions for candidates to answer on topics including Land Use and Transportation. Board members supported this idea and agreed it should be scheduled for early October.
- New SWNA boundary signs have been installed.
- Development has started on the 30 lot subdivision on Marken in Valhalla Heights, as well as Outcrop at the corner of Mt. Washington and Shevlin Park Rd.
- HB 2001 and Single Room Occupancy was discussed. Justin Livingston shared that it was discussed at a council subcommittee meeting and it may be an agenda item at the next Planning Commission meeting. SROs could be allowed under the code changes as an option to address homelessness and affordable housing.
- Community Emergency Response Training (CERT) volunteers have been trained but managers and resources have been diverted to county level COVID-19 response.
- Firewise Workshop discussions have been focused on rural areas in the counties. Glenn has reached out for information about programs more suited to our communities.
- The 2021 budget is just over $7,000. There was money left over that will roll over, giving SWNA $8,400.
Agenda topics for next meeting
- Awareness campaign to discourage feeding of wildlife.
- Discuss whether or not to have an Annual Meeting, considering the coronavirus restrictions.
- Continue discussions on public surveys using Survey Reach and HootSuite.
- Discuss joining with other NA’s to pool resources for a combined candidate forum.
Meeting notes submitted by Cheri Smith.
