Items Discussed:
  • Richard Gilbert – Walkable NWX (guest speaker)
Discussed mission of Walkable NWX, which is to gain support and funding for the implementation of traffic calming measures to alleviate the safety concerns that affect livability in NWX. City Council acknowledges that traffic safety is a priority and has created a Traffic Safety Fund, but they have limited it to local roads, and not arterials or collectors. Bill Moseley requested that the city council expand the scope to include arterials and collectors. Recommended action is to support and accept the advancement of the Walkable NWX measures within the City review and funding as appropriate.
  • Update on NLA – Jill Mehner
There are three working groups that Jill could join: Safety; Land Use Education; Communications and Outreach. She  plans to join the Safety Working Group, since it is such an important topic for SWNA.
  • Update on NART - Erik Moberly
Erik has not yet been to a NART meeting but plans to attend as many as possible.
  • Outreach
The NA still has $2,238.69 available to spend from annual City of Bend funds. We lose this money if we don’t spend it by June 30th. The goal is to connect people and increase participation.
  • Ideas discussed included:
    • Printing and mailing surveys and save the date cards for the annual meeting.
    • Sponsored ads on the Nextdoor website or neighborhood Facebook group.
    • Purchasing SWNA road signs.
    • Soliciting membership through Summit West Living publication.

Agenda Topics for Next Meeting (some time in September)
Byron mentioned a Bulletin article that discussed moving towards neighborhood parking permits, which would be passed off to the Neighborhood Associations to manage. The concern is that the NA’s don’t have the resources to take this on. It was recommended to contact Joshua Romero, the City of Bend staff liaison to the NAs.
