- Discussed the City of Bend’s desire to facilitate better communication so the public can get involved in the Land Use Planning process early enough to voice concerns. This includes building a framework for land use education.
- City of Bend is changing the software used by the Planning Department to City View. It will be tested in the spring of 2020 and hopefully launch June 1, 2020. This should be more user friendly.
- Erik asked for feedback about what went well and what can be improved for the 2020 Annual Meeting. Board members were pleased overall with the meeting. Areas for improvement include:
- Many people were attending for the first time. One goal is to get people to come back year after year.
- Send multiple notices about the meeting including one as a “save the date” and another with agenda items and speaker information.
- Streamline the check-in process to shorten the line.
- Jill attended the January 14 meeting and provided an NSSP summary. All applications were prioritized, the top 15 were selected and because of the budget, only the top 8 were chosen for a total project cost of $773,000. Equitability and safety were the top 2 priorities/criteria.
- Neither application from SWNA was selected but we tied for 9th place. Projects not chosen go onto an active list and it’s possible that NSSP will receive additional funds from a future bond and more projects can be selected.
- It was decided that applicants within SWNA would receive a personal email notifying them of the decision and a general update would go out via newsletter and website update.
- Erik emailed meeting notes from the most recent meeting to the board.
- Now that meetings occur on Saturday, it’s difficult for Erik to attend, but he will ask for a board member to sub when possible.
- City of Bend recommended that each NA have a separate, general email address for Land Use updates so that information is still received by the NA if the Land Use Chair changes.
- Discussed pushing information out to subscribers rather than relying on them to check Facebook and the website. The goal is to reach out more to increase participation and awareness.
- Makayla has an updated “by door” mailing list that she will provide.
- Discussed keeping members more informed about major Land Use projects in SWNA via email newsletters and on the website.
- Eight SWNA members volunteered for the Community Emergency Response Training (CERT) Jan 17-19. Teams will be grouped by Neighborhood Association to make it easier to stay organized after training.
- Discuss frequency and content for mailouts.
- Discuss adding bios and photos of board members to website.
- Discuss selecting a recurring meeting day and time.
- Eric Eggers from Valhalla Heights attended. He wants to learn more about the SWNA and help where he can. He is concerned about speeding and lack of crosswalks on Mt Washington and wants to gather data about speed and trips. Directed him to City of Bend resources.
- Richard Brodsky is a NWX resident interested in Land Use, safety, and affordable housing.
- Greg Bryant is a candidate for County Commissioner and a member of CTAC (Citywide Transportation Advisory Committee).
